Scenic Hartwell Lake is one of the Southeast's largest and most popular public recreation lakes. Built by the Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963, the lake boasts 56,000 acres of water and 962 miles of shoreline.

Hartwell Lake borders Georgia and South Carolina, and is easily accessible from Interstate 85. The lake is only an hour and one-half drive from Columbia and Asheville, and less than two hours away from Atlanta and Charlotte.

Hartwell Lake's diversity makes it the Southeast's premiere recreational body of water. Choose from secluded coves, narrow straights, or wide open sail boat waters. World class fishing abounds, and smooth waters for supreme boarding and skiing will beckon you.

The surrounding areas lay claim to a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The mild winters are short, and bring forth a warm, early spring. Summers are long, making water activities possible April through October.

Tiger Fans will love the close proximity to Clemson University. And Athens, home of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, is less than an hour away. Up for some terrific shopping? The Tanger Outlet Mall in Commerce, Georgia, is a short 30 minute drive. Another favorite day trip is the 50 minute drive to the German town of Helen, Georgia.
